HI! I'M KATIE.

WHAT I'M ABOUT

I am a newlywed Psychology student at BYU and a design enthusiast.
Some of my favorite things in the world are big windows, the color white, floppy dog ears, and the smell of clean laundry. If there's one thing I want to do with my life, it's take all the happy things I can think of and share the feeling with other people.
Hence, my two loves: Psychology, in which I can bring hope to others through therapy; and design, through which I can create beautiful and communicative designs that share a positive message and cheerful aesthetic.

MY GOALS

I am studying Psychology and pursuing the Marriage and Family Therapy dream because people are important to me and because every person deserves to be understood.
I design because environment is also very important to me, and wherever I have the opportunity to add something beautiful to my environment, I'll take it.

WHERE I COME FROM

I come from a military family, so adaptation is my specialty. Counting my move to Provo for college, I moved 14 times in 18 years, and loved it. I claim Alaska as home because that's where high school happened, but I also have strong, homey ties in Northern Virginia, where that East Coast-y breeze still pulls me.

HOW I CREATE

I am a self-taught designer, which means that I learned much of what I do on the go.
Last year, I took a few free classes from BYU's IT department, which sparked my interest in the creative side of information tech. I began experimenting with web design, and pulled out the little knowledge I had of html from the dusty middle-school corners of my brain to learn how it worked. On my personal blog, I began implementing new designs as I learned how to use them.
As I developed more through html design, I decided I wanted to delve a little deeper into graphics creation, so I started exploring the Adobe Creative Suite. One of my first projects was a wedding invitation suite for a friend, and that was both an exciting creative project and a critical learning experience. Since then, I have created a number of art prints, graphics, additional invitation designs, handouts, flyers, and learning material packets.

MY TOOLS

WHAT I CAN DO FOR YOU

I enjoy my work, and put a great deal of effort into it. I value quality work that appeals to people on a simple level and, as appropriate, uplifts and brings joy to others.
I know the value of timely work, but when necessary, I will always take the time to try another scheme. I believe in working with oomph--taking both inspirations and assignments and turing them into creative designs.
And I always strive to exceed expectation of clarity, quality of work, and positive attitude.
